The Runway's Story
The Runway started in April 2005, when Claudia Prado decided to make her & her mother’s dream a reality, as well as their family dream.
Originating from Guatemala, Sergio Prado (father) and Guadalupe Prado (mother), came to the United States with daughter Claudia in 1989. Coming here with nothing but the dream of living a better life and having a chance to a better future for their family.
Mother, Guadalupe Prado, Has been working in the fashion industry for over 19 years. For 16 years and present, she has worked for a very popular women’s clothing brand manufacturer. Guadalupe, has been selling for top high end boutiques worldwide and although she loves her job, she has always had the passion for fashion and dreamed of some day having her own women’s clothing boutique.
With Guadalupe always working in the fashion industry, Claudia grew up learning the industry by her mother,“My mom would take me to work with her on my vacations. I used to love going with her, it was fun. I would try on all the clothes!” says Claudia.
In 2003, Claudia graduated from high school and joined the fashion industry herself, working for the same company as mom. “It was a dream for me, to work for such an amazing company with beautiful styles. Plus, it was family, they saw me grow up”. Working there, Claudia would see retail store owners and boutique owners excited about catering to women with beautiful fashions. She understood her mother’s dream and wished for it herself.
In April 2005, Claudia decided to open the boutique…an online boutique called THE RUNWAY. The name was inspired by all the beautiful clothes from work, “You could just wear the clothes and it would make you feel like a model on the runway”. But an online store isn’t easy and so Claudia would advertise their site by attending shopping events. Their first event was in May 2005 at the Hollywood Palladium,”It was a huge success, everyone loved the clothes”.
By attending several shopping events that year and building clientele, www.shoptherunway grew. The Mother and Daughter team, which seem more like sisters, continued doing shopping events in California and then Nationwide. Now, in the summer of 2008, The Runway will open their storefront boutique in the city of Brea in Orange County California, at the brand new South Brea Lofts complex. “We are so excited and can’t wait to open our shop”.
www.ShopTheRunway.com has become one of women’s favorite online clothing boutiques selling worldwide and bringing women high end fashions at not so high prices at their fingertips. “Our customers love our online shop, especially our Rubber Ducky Clothing line. Rubber Ducky has amazing dresses that make you stand out”. Rubber Ducky has been seen in several fashion magazines and worn by many celebrities including; Eva Longoria, Gwen Stefani, Jessica Alba, Pink and many more. Earlier this year, The Runway launched their new site www.ILoveRubberDucky.com , they hope to have the same success.
